How to Clean Outdoor Rugs- A Simple Guide to Sprucing Up Your Outdoor Spaces

As the weather warms up, people tend to spend more time outdoors. Whether it’s hosting barbecues, relaxing on the patio or playing with the kids, outdoor spaces become the go-to spots during the summer. And one of the most important accessories that can spruce up your outdoor space is an outdoor rug

However, no matter how beautiful and comfortable the rug is, no one would want to sit on an outdoor rug which is dirty. A dirty garden rug is enough to spoil the look and mood of a family gathering.

But how do garden/patio rugs get dirty? Dirt, dust, debris, pollen and other elements accumulate on the surface of the rug, making it look dull and worn out.

So, how do you clean a rug? In this blog, we will discuss how to clean patio rugs to keep them looking fresh and new.

A Simple Guide to Clean Outdoor Rugs

  • Step 1: Remove Debris

Start by removing any debris from the rug by shaking it or using a broom. This will loosen up any dirt and dust accumulated on the surface of the rug.

  • Step 2: Use a Hoover

Next, use a vacuum cleaner to clean the rug thoroughly. This will remove any dirt, dust or pollen that may have settled on the rug. Be sure to vacuum both sides of the rug for a complete clean.

  • Step 3: Spot Clean

If there are any stains or spills on the rug, use a mixture of water and mild detergent to spot-clean the affected area. Gently scrub the area with a soft-bristled brush or sponge and rinse with clean water.

  • Step 4: Hose Down

Once you’ve removed all the debris and stains, it’s time to hose off the rug. Use a garden hose to wash off any remaining dirt or soap from the rug. Make sure to rinse both sides of the rug and hang it to dry in a shaded area.

  • Step 5: Dry the Rug

Lay the outdoor rug flat or pin it to a clothesline. Don’t try to drape it over railings as it might lose shape as they dry. Once the top of the rug is dry, turn it over to dry the backside. Make sure both sides are dry before moving to place it back on your patio or moving it into storage.
